As a Japanese, I would like all visitors to Japan to enjoy the delicious food that Japan has to offer.
So, let me introduce you to how to find a good restaurant in Tokyo!
Also, this method is the same for choosing a restaurant outside of Tokyo.
Don’t choose a restaurant from a travel guidebook
I generally do not recommend restaurants listed in travel guidebooks.
Some of them may be good restaurants, but judging which ones are good is difficult.
And you can’t check objective evaluations such as word of mouth.
This is not only for foreign tourists, but also applies to me as a Japanese person when I look for a good restaurant.
Choose a restaurant with a score of 3.5 or higher on Tabelog
Many Japanese people, including myself, use “Tabelog” to find good restaurants.
The key to finding a good restaurant on Tabelog is to look for a restaurant with a score of 3.5 or higher.
Most Japanese people who use Tabelog know from experience that restaurants with a score of 3.5 or higher are usually good.
From my experience, restaurants with a score of 3.5 or higher on Tabelog are usually good.
Make 3.5 the minimum score for your restaurant search.
On the other hand, if your score is lower than 3.5, you are more likely to find a bad restaurant.
If possible, choose a restaurant with a score of 3.6 or 3.7, and if you choose a restaurant with a higher score, you can certainly choose a good restaurant.
If you use a service other than Tabelog
If you use a service other than Tabelog
Even if you use a restaurant review service other than Tabelog, you should check the scores on Tabelog as well.
That way, you won’t have to choose a restaurant that doesn’t have good ratings among Japanese people.

It gives you a ranking of 100 good restaurants in each of 25 different categories, such as ramen, sushi, soba, etc.
Because they are ranked, all the restaurants have high scores and are certainly delicious.
Just choose the restaurant you want to go to from the Tabelog rankings and you will be able to enjoy a delicious meal in Japan!
